Coorg Trip (May 17-20, 2010)
Bangalore city is surrounded with coffee plantations and lush landscapes all within a few hours drive, so we decided to make it a family outing to the Skanda coffee plantation. The plantation owners rent out their home like a bread & breakfast place with custom meal plans and a touch of home. While all this is nice, getting to these places via the highways is another story, as the roads are extremly bumpy and the traffic very chaotic.
There is a lot to see around the plantation as there are elephants that work full time in the forest and the humans prepare their meals and feed them. Then there are natural wonders like waterfalls that again need negotiating the lousy road infrastructure. Also not far away is the mini Tibetan style Buddhist town populated with the followers of the Dalai Lama.
We found out how labor intensive coffee growing is, and the wages make it possible for us sitting in our homes to drink coffee at a reasonable price.
