Kolkata Trip (Oct, 2009)

Durga Puja is a religious event but in reality it is a block party, like a G-rated carnival going on for a month. We shot a lot of footage of this event in 2007, but this time around we decided to just spend the nights wandering around. During the day the events draw a lot of crowd, and goes on all night but it is more manageable during the late hours.

Our plan was to get a chauffeured car with temperature control, decide on a location to travel to, and make sure that there are 5-star hotels on the way for breaks. There are no good public toilets on the way, and the heat is usually unbearable.

Bengal is known for it's artistic talents, and this event is a chance for the artists of Bengal to showcase their efforts. The decorations are all theme based, so when the world cup soccer is being contested, religion and sport seem to blend in the form of art.
